You Don’t Need Ears to Hear
Have you ever had the experience of running into the same person over and over in a short period of time? No matter where you went, you ran into them again and again. It happened to me, except it wasn’t the same person; it was the same kind of person. I’ll explain. Over several weeks I noticed that I was attracting deaf people into my life. The first time it happened I thought nothing of it – just a wonderful interaction with a young man. After the third time it happened I couldn’t help but wonder why. Was there a message? Was there something I was to learn from this?
I mentioned this during a recent dinner with friends. As I was telling them about my experience, I observed a perplexing look on the face of one of my dinner companions. I interrupted my story to ask if there was a problem. She said, “You did see the two deaf people at the next table, didn’t you?” “Deaf people?” I thought to myself, as I turned to see. Sure enough, there was a young, deaf couple signing their dinner conversation. I was amazed! I had not even seen them, and right there in the middle of talking about attracting deaf people, I had attracted two more! It was at that exact moment that I knew I was attracting deaf people for a reason. There must be a message for me and I wanted it!
A few days later I had the understanding of why I had been attracting deaf people into my life.
Early one morning my inner Whisper woke me with these words, “Your brothers and sisters are deaf. They cannot hear the silent voice inside.”
Hearing my essential Whisper has become a way of life for me, so much so, that I sometimes forget that others don’t live in consistent dialogue with the Whisper. Each of us have access to our beautiful, divine wisdom, yet so few realize or even know that it exists – much less that it is available to them. To me, the Whisper is like having access to the most valuable resource in the world. Having the ability to have a two-way interaction with the Whisper is like having the private phone number to God. Why are we deaf and blind to our greatest asset? It’s very simple. The noise of our mental chatter drowns the silent whisper within.
So, how can you begin to hear the Whisper? Or, how can you strengthen your ability to hear the Whisper? We each have to start somewhere and the best place to start is with the simple awareness that the Whisper does indeed exist. Acknowledgment of its existence is vital to have a moment-to-moment relationship with the Whisper.
Recognizing, trusting, and following guidance becomes easier and easier when you practice using the six distinct ways your Whisper communicates with you — Wonderment, Inspiration, Urge, Knowing, Snap-shot Click, and Collapsed Time and Space.
Even if you are someone who clearly recognizes the sensations of your Whisper, you may have noticed that sometimes you recognize it clearly, and at other times you do not. Have even wondered why this is so?
Listening with an open heart is necessary in order to truly hear the Whisper. Our ego always wants something and it doesn’t want the advice of the Whisper. It wants what it wants, the way it wants it. I have discovered that I most easily recognize and hear my Whisper when I sincerely want the truth. And, I know that I am sincere in wanting the truth when I have detached from the desire for a particular outcome or answer. The ability to discern the sensations and guidance of the Whisper is so much easier once I drop my preconceived ideas of what I want to hear.
Can the Whisper be accessed for guidance? Can you ask for help with a problem or concern? Absolutely, and I recommend it. But, heed this warning! When asking for guidance with an attachment to how you think the problem should be solved, the ability to access the truth has already been severed.
Not long ago, Vanessa (my co-author of Your Essential Whisper) was in Starbucks and watched two women signing. They were so lively and animated, jumping out of their seats, laughing and touching one another to make points. They were oblivious to the rest of us, totally present. She was fascinated with them. What occurred to her at the time was all the various ways we communicate. Not hearing didn’t stop them at all! And not hearing the Whisper doesn’t stop it from communicating, not at all! Listening for the inner sensations has nothing to do with your ears. You listen with your heart.
